/disease
▪ In some areas of this agro-climatic zone are affected by flood .Under such circumstances transplanting of Sali rice is affected. Farmers of such areas are advised to collect short duration HYV rice varieties like Luit, Kapili, Kolong, Dishang etc. These varieties can be transplanted or sown within 1st week of September. More over long duration cultivars like Monohar Sali, Andrew Sali and Gitesh can be transplanted with 60 days seedling, where as Praful can be transplanted with90 days old seedlings. Therefore, farmers should be ready with this type of cultivars to cope up with flood or drought like situation. ▪ Farmers from the flood affected areas should select cultivars like Jalashree, Jalkuwari, Plaban etc. which remain alive under water up to 15 days before panicle initiation stage. ▪ In some area of the district received sufficient rainfall in the last week and the heavy rainfall forecast is there for the coming week. The situation is congenial for transplanting Sali rice. Farmers are advised to transplant 25 to 30 days old seedling at a spacing of 15 x 20 cm. Farmers are also advised to apply fertilizers @ 6 Kg urea, 17 Kg SSP and 4 Kg MOP for HYVs and 3 Kg urea, 8.5 Kg SSP and 2 Kg MOP for local varities (for one bigha of land) just before final paddling. ▪ Farmers are advised to select upland, fertile soil for sowing. Some of the HYV are pratap, T-44, MB 313 etc. 2.5-3Kg seed is required for one bigha of land ▪ In the days of heavy rainfall and higher relative humidity the citrus may be infested by ‘Gummosis’ disease. Some waxy materials release from the trunk of the affected crop and the affected portion become brown in colour. The affected portion should be clean nicely and wash with ‘potash water’ and Bordeaux mixture should be used in that area. As preventive measure draining out of excess water from the area is essential. ▪ Farmers are advised not to allow water stagnation in the root zone of old and newly planted seedlings of papaya. They are also advised to apply fertilizers @ 500 gm Urea, 1Kg SSP and 800gm MOP per plant per year. Apply 1st dose with half of the above fertilizer mixture along with decomposed cow dung 1feet away from the collar region by ring method two months after planting.  ▪They are also advised to spray 0.5% dimacron in non rainy days against banchy top disease ▪ It is observed that pluckable shoots of tea are severely infested by Helopeltis, a serious insect pest of tea in this region. Farmers are advised to spray Thiamethoxam @ 20gm or Endosalfan @ 250ml per 100 lit of water at 10-15 days interval in the early morning or late evening in non rainy days. They are also advised to keep the ground free from weeds. ▪ The weather is favourable for pollu beetle grabs which feed on tender berries in this days, therefore farmers are advised to apply Endosalfan 35EC or Dimmethoate30EC @ 1ml/ lit of water against grabs ▪ Due to water stagnation in root zone, the betel vine may be infected with foot rot and leaf spot diseases which are very serious in this region. In addition to keeping the root zone free from water stagnation, apply four drenches (in root zone) with 1% Bordeaux mixture at 30 days interval and spray (on leaves) 0.5% Bordeaux mixture at 15 days interval during rainy season. Drenching and spraying should be done in non rainy days In these days of heavy rainfall and higher relative humidity the farmers are advised to remove the excess water from the root zone by providing sufficient drains. Excessive water and moist condition is congenial for the growth and development of fungal diseases in vegetable and fruit crops. ▪ In rainy season, calves may infected by worm related problems. So, farmers are advised to feed medicines like Piperzine or Mebendazole thrice in a month. For more details they should consult the nearest Veterinary Department
