ABDOMINOPLASTY (Tummy Tuck)
Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck can help to improve the appearance of the abdominal area. Pregnancy, previous surgery or dramatic weight changes, can cause excess accumulation of fat or skin around the abdomen, which can lead to both physical discomfort and uneasiness about the appearance of the body. The appearance of the abdomen can be changed with a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty to a leaner shape which would fit better into clothes.
There are two types of abdominoplasty 1.
Full Abdominoplasty – This is when the excess tissue between the umbilicus and the pubic area is removed and the underlying abdominal muscles are tightened.
Mini Abdominoplasty – The abdominal muscles are very toned so only the excess tissue is removed. Only excess tissue above the pubic area is removed. The abdominal area above the umbilicus is not tightened.
THE OPERATION
This operation is performed under general anaesthetic and takes approximately 2 hours. The incision line is made from hip to hip just above the pubic area. The excess fat and skin is removed and if necessary the muscles of the abdomen will be tightened. A new site is made for the belly button, scaring is minimal around belly button. Drains are usually used and are removed before you leave the hospital. DAY OF SURGERY
